»Urban Encounters« – Daniel Behrendt (DE), Lorenz Estermann (AT), Johannes Kersting (DE)
The »Urban Encounters« exhibition brings together paintings, objects, photographs by the artists Daniel Behrendt, Lorenz Estermann and Johannes Kersting. They draw their pictorial motifs from the urban context, finding them in unremarkable and functional everyday buildings. References to reality are thus present, albeit not necessarily upon first sight. The in part related works that differ in terms of media reveal aesthetic as well as abstract subtleties from the constructed landscape surrounding us. Despite the uninhabited scenarios that Behrendt, Estermann and Kersting present us in their pictorial worlds, the human being is more than ever present in the architecture. By focusing on idiosyncrasies of the built environment, they call our attention to pictorial spaces whose details we rarely notice in everyday life, opening up new perspectives with their artistic compositions that reflect on the relationship between architecture and society.
