»Vertigo« (Latin: dizziness) – is the title of the exhibition featuring works by the Essen-based “material painter” Jürgen Paas. Circular discs hanging against the wall seemingly spin like kinetic objects; lying flat, they deceive our perception, appearing like a rotating turntable. Quadratic wall objects change colors depending on the perspective of the viewer.
Dynamic versus static, motion versus standstill, circular versus angular, multicolored versus monochrome. Jürgen Paas works up PVC color ribbons, placing them in a fixed sequence and merging them into ever new color atmospheres. He experiments, he “paints” with the material. With individual as well as assembled groups of clear geometrical forms, he stages and composes a space-consuming exhibition.

»Home Office – Interiors in the Time of Corona« is the title given by Ute Heuer, professor for painting at the Hochschule Hannover since 2011, to her series of watercolors painted during these special times. The term “interior” as a genre in art that, for example, was extremely popular in bourgeois circles during the mid nineteenth century, describes the painted representation of mostly private indoor spaces that are shown with a great love for detail. 180 years later, Corona, Home Office. Private spaces now have a new meaning. With the eyes of the interior painter, Ute Heuer has captured and examined the small personal details of domestic work places, the traces of professional activities, the views out the windows or the filled waste paper baskets in order to document the metaphysical presence of the inhabitants. “Home office” – Home? Or Office? The series is a very current depiction of the point of intersection between the private and the professional…
